Butterfly Kisses

I sat out on the porch, staring idly at the old swingset that has seen better days, days filled with laughter and happiness. I somehow also knew how the swingset felt, abandoned, sad, and forgotten. With a drink in my hand, I tried to drowse all the pain away with alcohol, while all the flashbacks slowly sink into my mind.

It was the 28th Autumn of my life. The happiest and saddest Autumn of my life. I remember the chilly Autumn breeze blowing on my cheeks as I rushed to the ICU. I was like a mad man. My lovely wife, Susan, got into an accident while she was 9 months pregnant. I was extremely devastated. I was in fear that both the baby and Susan were going to die. I prayed and prayed for them to live, and I think the Angel of Death took pity of me. My daughter, Amaya, was born without a harm. But Susan died delivering her.

I tried my best as a single parent to raise Amaya to become a respectful woman like Susan. She asked me, "Why don't I have a mom like the everybody else?". I held her tightly, resisting the urge to cry. I told her that her mother was in heaven and that she is looking after us up there. She nodded and prayedto God, asking Him to take care of Susan.

I remember on Amaya's 5th birthday, I brought Amaya to her first pony ride. She was screaming and hopping when she saw the pony, she couldn't wait to ride it. She said in between giggles, "Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride!" On Father's Day, I remember it was the first time she baked a cake for me, she was embarassed since it was a bit burnt. "I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried..." The voices repeated in my mind, she grew up so fast.

I remember Amaya's 16th birthhday. It was the first time she didn't celebrate it with me. I remember looking at her all dolled up, wearing perfume and makeup. I didn't realize it till then, but she looked just like Susan. When she left, I cried for the first time in years. I did not realize how fast she was growing up. In a few years, she will be in college and then she will leave home for good. It was painful.

My mind started to drift towads the day of her marriage. I remember standing by her side in the bride-room, she was wearing her mother's wedding gown. It was a simple yet elegant wedding gown decorated with beautiful lace peony embroideries. I looked over her shoulder in the mirror, as the sorrow deepens in my soul. How I wish Susan was here to see our beautiful baby girl. She put on makeup, and asked me what was wrong. I tried my best to come up with a reply and said, "I'm not sure. I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl..." She smiled and hugged me.

I remember the short walk down the aisle. That short 30 seconds felt like an eternity. Memories of her from childhood to adolences engulfed my mind. It was painful seeing the little girl I loved leaving me for another man. I hugged her one last time before I handed her to her husband-to-be, and mustered some strength and said "You look beautiful." I sometimes wonder, what happened in between everything? Why did I not notice everything happening before me?

I drank another gulp of beer as reality settles in. I find myself standing in front of her picture in the hall. Crying once again. I wonder why every Autumn is so sad? I wonder why the Angel of Death only took Amaya after 28 years? I wonder why didn't he take me? Why am I left here on Earth? They say that there is a meaning behind every life and death, but I find no meaning in mine anymore. I dragged my legs tirelessly towards a gun and with a bullet in my head, I joined the 2 most important people in my life in heaven.

Float : Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2 : When opposites collide?

She flipped through her phone while walking down the stairs of her apartment building. She was quite paranoid that one of her many alarms would suddenly ring during class. She imagined what would happen if she was in the middle of introducing herself and the theme song of Sergeant Keroro would suddenly echo from her bag.

"OWL HOUSE MANOR. Complex for rent. Contact management at 0....."
A down-at-heels advertisement stood outside Xue's apartment. Owl House Manor, quite a peculiar name for an apartment. The designs of the apartment were owl inspired, you could tell the designer put quite a lot of thought in designing every nook and cranny with little owls.
The corridors would look like an owl if you stood in the right angle, which sometimes frightens the residents, especially the old men who always come home late after a night's drink.

The building was old, but young by heart, the residents living there were lively and warm.
It was built in the mid 1800 by a Sir Elgard M. who stayed in Japan, the fellow was of course, a big fan of owls. His Japanese mistress had told him that Owls bring luck and prevents one from hardship, but never did she thought that he'd really build a mansion because of her small talk.
Ironically after the mansion was built, the old man had moved on to the next life. The mistress decided to sell it since she thought the mansion was cursed. Finally after many change of hands, the mansion was converted into an apartment complex.

Sadly the building was getting younger, a lot of the light switches were faulty. The lights in the corridor would flicker on and off at times, adding the piercing stares of the owl wallpaper, it would make the

Well, back to our specimen.

Walking without a care, our protoganist casually glanced at her watch.
The worn out looking watch pointed at 7:50.
Xue froze there for a while, there was no more than 10 minutes till the opening ceremony started.
With a worried heart, she regained conciousness and paced towards school with a nervous heart.

The faster her footsteps, the more she realized that this was actually her first day outside after so many years of being a shut-in.  She was suddenly reminded that no one knew her nor did she knew anyone there. Xue was given a chance to study at Ravelyn High School by an unknown benefactor, and of course she didn't refuse the offer. But now the thought started echo through her mind, she was all alone.

A sudden cramp jolted from her stomach, "Oh god... A stomachache now?!", Xue held onto her aching stomach, it seems like she had gotten the butterfly's from thinking about the inevitable self introductions that would take place later.

Xue wasn't just worried about the dreadful self introductories, the thought of not fitting in with the rest of her class scared her a little. But she was actually more worried that she would be like the girl in Another.
*Another is a manga revolving around a girl who is ignored because of a so called curse in her school.

While crossing a rather busy road, a cheesy ringtone from an old anime series emitted from her skirt. "A mesage? Hadn't had one in such a long time...", Xue took out the bulky phone from her pocket.

As the curious girl checked the contents of the message, it was from an unknown number.
"Descends from the sky.
  An angel or a devil?
  Black or white. You Choose."

"What th-"

The sounds of tires screeching and horns blaring overwhelmed her ears. Xue froze there momentarily, her soul flew to another world, wanting to escape the grasps of the world.
Her soul wandered into her memories, resmincing about her sad life. Her parents left the world for a better place when Xue was 8. Even before their "depature", she was always alone at home. However, the times she spent with them, let it be the moments her mother walks her to the station or the birthdays she spent with her parents, she cherished those moments.

She felt regret engulfing her mind, she could live a better life if she had one more chance. She wanted to have a family, she didn't want an early death like her parents. She wanted to live.

As Xue's soul returned back to the present, a petite worried looking girl filled her vision.
A delicate looking face, her brows furrowed in a weird shape, her eyes were filled with tears and she was clearly trembling with a mix of feelings, she was either afraid that Xue was hurt or that she was a little bit too worried.

Xue stared into this stranger's eyes for a while, this angel had a pair eyes caked with a layer of makeup, from mascara to fake lashes, her eyeshadow was a bright shimmery color as well.
Yet, underneath the makeup, she could the girl was a pure soul. The look in her eyes gave it away.

"A-Are you okay?" said the unknown girl who was trembling on top of Xue, she seemed more like the victim than Xue did.

"...Yes... But my legs hurt a lot..." Xue said as a sudden pain sprang from her leg.

"What?! You're hurt?! Let me call an am-"
Her sentence was cut off immedietly when the silly girl noticed her heels were almost pierced into Xue's leg.

"Oh my God! I'm so sorry! So sorry! Sorry! Sorry!",  the young girl kept bowing as she repeated the sentence a few hundred, maybe a thousand times to Xue.

At this point, quite a number of people stared at them strangely and whispered stuff like,
"Are they filming?"
"The brunette sure is cute.."
"The brunette looks kinda familar?"
"Why is the girl with black hair there... She's just average.."
Not one person offered any help, even thought a few of them witnessed the girls almost getting rammed by a car..

The two odd girls started blushing immensely as they stared at each other, noticing the people talking about them..

"Um... Why don't we leave this place first. It seems like we're attracting unwanted attention...", Xue said in an attempt to break free fom the tense atmostphere.

The girl then took the first step and lead Xue towards a less crowded path.

"Finally out of those nosy people's view!", Xue let out a big sigh, relieved from being out of the scene.

"Hey, we haven't introduced ourselves yet... My name is Xue, I'm 15 this year and am studying in Ravelyn High School.", Xue said trying to break the ice.

"Really?! I'm in Ravelyn as well! Now that you mention it, we're wearing the same uniforms... My name is Rinn, and enough with the formalities, you're talking like a person from some commercial, girl." Rinn replied in a strange western accent.

"I'm speaking weirdly? I haven't noticed it.... Which part of it is weird...?" Xue said confused.

*****************************************

The girls walked slowly towards the school gate.
"That's weird... No one's here..." Xue said worriedly, she was afraid that they went to the wrong school.

Looking at her watch, "8:30"
"Oh sh*t. We're late.", the duo said at the same time.

Rinn had started running towards the school hall already, Xue was still standing idly thinking of what to do, she was acting in an extremely slow pace... After almost a minute she started following Rinn's steps.

Float : Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1 : Start of a new school life.

Dreams.. It is a beautiful lie that we want to live in.
No feelings of pain or sadness,
I wonder, is there an eternal dream?
Needn't have to carry the world's burdens on your shoulder.
A dream to live in is all I wish for.

"RIIIIIIIIIIING !!!!!!!!!! RIIIIIIIIIIING! RIIIIIIIIIING! WAKE UP YOU LAZY PIG!"
The pesky alarm tune lock rang with such a sound that could shake the gods out of heaven.

As we can see... Our protagonist is here!
~Stretching out her arms, having perfectly placed locks, the sun shining brightly onto her porcelain like skin, the friendly creatures of the forest by her side singing along.
Well that's only something that happens in Disney films.

An atrocious beast awkening from the deepest slumbers.

A atrocious beast awakening from her deep slumber.
Growling an unknown chant as she throws the pest that had awaken her.
The ancient language of... "Teenager."

Ahh.. In real, The wicked beast is just your average teenager trying to get up for school.
A rather strange mammal in her nature, actually.
This specimen... Her name is "Xue"

"Urgh... I shouldn't have slept so late.... Damn... My first day of school...." muttered the half conscious girl.
With her eyes half open.. Wanting to fall and back into the warmth of her cozy bed..
She nochalantly walk or maybe crawled towards the bathroom.

A cramped and dimly lit bathroom it was.
Secretly wishing she could afford a new lightbulb she did.

Her usual morning routine.
Combing her unkempt hair, Cleansing her acne-prone skin gently, and brushing her disgustingly yellow teeth...
She gave a stare at the girl in the mirror.
Her expressionless face. Somewhat resembling the expression of a certain vampire's girlfriend.
Thick raven black hair were placed effortlessly onto her shoulders..
A somewhat normal looking face she had.
She had a small short nose that would become red at a pinch,
A set of grayish eyes that seemed like it was hiding a sorrowful story.
Petite rosy pink lips that never seemed to change from a frown.
White skin... that resembled the cold harsh snow. Snow... That was her name.
Snow.. White...

She stared and stared...
Daydreaming about a better tomorrow.
Daydreaming about a day she will smile.
Daydreaming about a painless day.
Standing in a beautiful non-existent world in her mind that had shut off the outside world.

*Riiing.... You're going to miss school...*
An annoying robotic alarm message she had set up, just in case she doze off. Which actually came in handy for her. She, being the paranoid type had set up numerous alarms in the strangest days and times, just in case.

"Oh crap.... I'm going to be late huh? There's no rush... I don't really care though..."
The relaxed carefree attitude was something to admire about, when most girls get worked up about being late, Xue doesn't care.

Rummaging through her drawers to find her new uniform..
It was a strange experience for her.. It was all new to her..
Changing from her comfy PJs into the  unfamiliar and uncomfortable texture of her uniform..
It was a rather plain uniform. But to her, it may be one of her prettiest clothes.. Sadly.
A burberry plaided skirt and a white blouse with a school badge on the left hand side pocket.
She proceeded to slide on her ankle socks while trying her best  to not have her bare feet touch the cold floor.

Walking towards the door as she twisted her long hair into a messy bun..
She started to feel a little hungry, maybe she had wasted her energy due to experiencing so many first times at once?
Holding on to her grumbling stomach, she hopped to the kitchen joyously for a meal.

With a big silly grin on her face, she opened the small fridge of hers for some leftover food...
Only to find a disgusting rotting smell... of fish maybe?
Pinching her sensitive nose, she slammed the fridge close.
She hated the smell of rotting food... As did everyone else normal in the world.

She gave out a sigh.
She was hoping to eat some delicious fish for breakfast...
She even left food... 2 weeks earlier... For this day..

"Mhm.... I'll just buy some on the way to school......" mumbled the sad Xue.
Pacing towards the main entrance, finally setting off to school after much dawdling..
Then she remembered.
With a full 180 degree turn, she was facing a small altar.
A picture of a couple layed there with dust and and ashes.
A middle aged couple that  resembled Xue..
They carried the same blank expressions... The face of someone sorrowful.

"Mum... Dad... I'm going to school again... After so long.....", she prayed in a low whisper..

Turning back towards the door,
She saw her student ID hanging onto the handles of the door.
Funny, she remembered it was in her room though..
But she was already accustomed to weird happenings in her home.

" Student Identification Card
  Ravelyn Chinese High School
  Name: Tan
  Student number: 20314
  Birth date : 2005 May 22nd "

Little does Xue know the secrets behind Ravelyn Chinese High School and the strange happenings that will occur later onwards!

New Blog!

It's the holidays!
I made this  new blog too,
"Cloud's Small Box Of Stories"

I like the name "Cloud"
Floating around aimlessly, drifting anywhere the wind takes you, and enjoying the view of Earth.

Anyhoo, I made this blog to post "light novels",
Since I always get brainstorms when I'm doing homework ._.

Well,
I know not much people will read it though!
But I'll try my best, since I really want my English to improve!

I'll post my first "novel" later,

It's about a junior high school girl, and her adventures in a Private Chinese High School,
the way she lives is a style mix between Chinese and Japanese!!

Well, i know it's a little boring, but it'll be exciting in a few more updates~
